Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Powder Foundation

Laura Mercier has launched a new powder foundation for fall, the Smooth Finish Powder Foundation ($45; lauramercier.com) that comes in 20 shades. Its a wet/dry foundation that comes with a sponge and imparts a natural, semi-matte finish.  *Press Sample

I wear the shade Sand in the regular tinted moisturizer and 09 in this foundation seems like a good match, more or less. I like it when used dry, rather than wet - while using it wet, the coverage is more, but the finish is also quite dry and that doesn't sit well on my dry skin. When used dry, it works perfectly well over just moisturizer, but I quite like it over a lighter coverage tinted moisturizer, especially when used with a large fluffy brush. It feels weightless, almost like a setting powder, only better coverage. It does feel very smooth and creamy for a powder product and is very finely milled. As for the shade 09, it is just a touch light for me, but going into winter, I'm guessing it should match better. I don't wear it as a full coverage product, so its not a problem for me. The staying power is pretty damn good - it kept my makeup looking fresh all day without settling onto fine lines or large pores. Overall, its quite a versatile medium-full coverage product that can be sheered out quite a bit and from the shades available, it does seem like it would cover a wide range of skin tones. Watch this video to see what Laura has to say about the finish, coverage and application of this foundation.
