Oscar Velvet Eau de Parfum ($88; macys.com) is Oscar de la Renta’s newest fragrance, a contemporary, seductive twist on the classic Oscar de la Renta scent. Its a Floral Chypre with notes of Dewberry, Red Lotus, Litchi Nectar, Double Purple Datura, Tonka Bean, White Amber, Amethyst Calla Lily, Blue Iris and Black Orchid. Oscar Velvet is a sophisticated, rich floral with a creamy sweet dry down. The opening is more floral than sweet - its definitely a more youthful opening and a lot more youthful of a scent when compared to the original Oscar. This one is fresher, slightly more sweeter and richer. The dry down brings out a lot of the creamy richness from the Tonka Bean, Black Orchid and Litchi. Great longevity too - I get about 5-6 hours before the fragrance starts to fade on me. Overall, a beautiful, very feminine scent that definitely feels less grown up than the original Oscar and one I’d wear all through the year!
