Hakuhodo J5523 Round & Flat Eye Shadow Blending Brush

Hakuhodo J5523 Round & Flat Eye Shadow Brush ($18) is a fluffy domed brush made of fine goat hair - the bristles are soft, great for blending cream or powder products and the brush itself is one amazing multi tasking tool to have for any sort of eye makeup.

J5523 is very comparable to the MAC 217, and they both perform pretty much the same way. The construction is very similar - J5523 is a tad smaller, lengthwise and since I've had my MAC 217 for more than three years now, the bristles have splayed just a tad, but it still remains as one of my most used eye shadow brushes. J5523 is flat enough to lay eye shadow on the lids and tapered & fluffy enough to blend it out seamlessly. Its quite soft from the very beginning and gets softer with proper wash and care. If you do have a MAC 217 though, this is very similar and great to have if you want another one of the same type of brushes. If you don't, or haven't tried much from the brand, this is an excellent, all round eye shadow brush that I would highly recommend as one of the must haves from Hakuhodo. It is also well priced compared to the 217, or any other good quality blending brush for that matter.

  1. I love your photos. I've never used this brush before, but it looks comparable to MAC's #217. As a side note, how do you keep your 3 year old #217 looking so new?

    1. Thanks, JC! My 217 isn't all that nice looking, just looks nice in photos. But for three years, it has held up pretty well. One thing I hate are those spray on/ instant brush cleansers...never use them and I think it helps with the longevity of brushes :)
